Some Project Examples

Hill Primary Academy

Andrew was recently asked to work as Head teacher at an academy in South Yorkshire. The school is a large primary academy in the heart of the South Yorkshire coalfield area. It was one of privately sponsored academy chain.

Following difficulties between members of the senior management the school had been operating without a Head teacher or Academy Principal for some time and initially Andrew was simply to provide leadership and management supporting staff and being a visible leader for parents and children. Once new management had taken up their role he stayed on for a further half term providing capacity in preparation for a possible OFSTED inspection.

Together Everyone Achieving More

Cape UK

Andrew is currently working for Cape UK, a charitable organisation funded through the Arts Council who believe in the value of the arts as a way of motivating children to enjoy the education experience and as a consequence raise academic standards in schools.

They are briefed to support and promote arts activities across the whole of the Yorkshire and Humberside region, including North and North East Lincolnshire in order to improve children's access to, and quality of, arts and cultural opportunities. As the Arts Council Bridge Organisation for the area we particularly champion applications for Artsmark and Arts Awards.

Andrew's role in the organisation is to encourage schools to achieve Artsmark status and support projects in groups of schools which can help them achieve this aim. The work involves giving presentations to groups Headteachers about the charity's work, talking to arts providers about developing and supporting projects and supporting training and applications for the Artsmark and Arts Awards.

Woodthorpe Primary School

Jean worked alongside the Headteacher at this York primary school  for two and a half days a week for two terms to provide extra capacity for school improvement while they were unabkle to recruit a Literacy Leader. She worked with teaching staff to successfully raise standards in literacy with a particular emphasis on reading.

Using her experience she was able to ensure the literacy  environment  in the school reflected the enthusiasm the staff felt and she coached teachers in achieving this.  She audited  resources in the school and helped expand them to provide pupils with inspiring opportunities and access to quality texts. This resulted in setting up a library using "Junior Librarian" computer software so staff could easily see what was available and introducing a borrowing system so pupils had greater access to books. She also implemented an online reading scheme "Bug Club" so pupils could read online at home and at school.

She recommended interventions to accelerate rates of progress in areas of poor attainment in early phonics and provided training to staff  to help them deliver these. Results were much improved at the end of the year.

Woodthorpe was visited by Ofsted in March 2013 and although the overall judgement was room for improvement the progress in English was recognised and the fact Reading was a priority throughout the school was mentioned as a strength.

Illegal use of photographs downloaded from the internet is becoming an increasing problem for all divisions of education and industry. Using a photograph you don't have permission to use, particularly on a web site, can result in a very expensive fine. As a result AJ Visions are  submitting their photographs to a stock photograph website, Shutterstock, and beginning to develop a range of photographs for educational use.

At the present time this project is in the early stages and our photographs  can be purchased from Shutterstock along with photos on any subject you might  need. These pictures are royalty free and can be used on your website, newsletters and publications with complete confidence. If  we can give you any advice on subscribing to Shuttertstock or help you with the process please give us a ring and as long as we are credited with your introduction there will be no charge.
